DCCollectors: How did you get into collecting DC toys and what was your first DC toy/collectible?

Greg Cochrane: My passion for collecting came in 1966. I remember my mother bought me the Big Little Book on Batman, in paperback. I only recently found out it came out in hardback as well, so thanks to fellow bat collector Chuck Gregory, I now own both.

DCCollectors: How many pieces are in your collection?

Greg Cochrane: Gosh, I have never counted, but I’m guessing around 2,000 pieces.

DCCollectors: If you could only choose one item to keep, which one would it be?

Greg Cochrane: That’s a good question. Out of all the items I have it would be my replica Adam West Batman cowl.

DCCollectors: What is the one item that you really want to add to your collection?

Greg Cochrane: Another good question. I have a few items that I would love to have. The first would be a 1/18 scale of the Batboat, and a Batgirl cycle would be nice.

DCCollectors: What piece of advice do you have for those just starting their collections?

Greg Cochrane: The best advice is simple for collectors just starting out, focus on quality, not on quantity! You’ll have fewer pieces, but remember to add what you like for your collection, not what other people think you need to get to have a great collection.

DCCollectors: Do you have an interesting story regarding the collection, such as meeting someone famous while shopping for your toys, or a super deal you got on something? Something along those lines.

Greg Cochrane: Years ago when I first met Adam West (it was around 1988), I was looking at his table where his manager was laying out the color and the black and white photos he was going to be selling and signing, and I saw one particular 8×10 photo I really liked. I knew that by the time I’d get to meet Adam it most likely would be gone due to the length of the line. As luck would have it, my friend was wanting to get in line, and as I walked backwards just for a moment, I walked right into Adam, and these huge hands were put on my shoulders, and I heard that distinct voice from behind me say, “excuse me citizen.”

After a quick introduction of myself, Adam asked me if I saw anything on the table I would like to buy. Of course I said yes, the only color picture he had. He then asked to whom to make the picture too. Not really paying attention to what was going on behind me, a small group was getting very angry that I was allowed to go ahead of the several hundred people who were their ahead of me. I thanked Adam and the next thing I knew, my friend grasped my hand and he had me run out of that area as the crowd was very upset. It’s funny now that I look back, but not at the time.
