The past few days have been a whirlwind for DC Comics movie news. From out first look at Birds of Prey, to the announcement of an animal led DC Comics movie, there is more than enough news to get any fan excited! We are going to break down the news for you in one place, so sit back and take in all the news that will make your week right here!

The Batman

First up let us talk about Matt Reeves’ The Batman film. The Hollywood Reporter sat down with Matt Reeves to discuss his thoughts on the upcoming, and exactly where it stands at this point. The information given did not disappoint.

The film’s title as of now is The Batman, although that could change later on in production. According to Reeves, nailing down the “feel” of the film was very important. “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional.” He went on to add, “It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”

It appears that there will be more than one villain in the film. “There will be a Rogues Gallery,” said Reeves. “The casting process will begin shortly. We’re starting to put together our battle plan. I’m doing another pass on the script and we’ll begin some long-lead stuff to start developing conceptual things.”

In a separate article by Deadline, it was revealed that the film should hit theaters June 25, 2021. Ben Affleck has also confirmed that he will not be playing the role of Batman in the film via the tweet below.

Does this mean that Affleck has finally moved on from playing Batman? The jury is still out on that, as the Batman in Reeves’ film is a younger version of the character.

Suicide Squad

Next, The Hollywood Reporter is saying that it is now official that James Gunn will be directing the next Suicide Squad film (as well as writing). The movie is being described as a relaunch with “mostly” new characters. Rumors are swirling that the only two returning characters/actors will be Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.

It was also announced that the film will have an August 6, 2021 release date.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

The first look at Birds of Prey hit the Internet earlier this week. First we got a look at Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn via Robbie’s official Instagram page (below).

DC Super Pets

Finally we wrap up with the announcement of a DC Super Pets movie! DC Super Pets, from directors Jared Stern and Sam Levine and producer Patty Hicks, started life as a children’s series from Capstone Publishers combining the pets of a number of DC superheroes — including Superman’s dog, Krypto; Batman’s dog, Ace the Bat-Hound; and Supergirl’s cat, Streaky — into a crime-fighting team of their own. The property also appeared as a short on Cartoon Network’s DC Nation animated block.

This one will hit theaters May 21, 2021.

Hopefully that is enough information to get you caught up on the week for DC movies! Check back soon for more information on the DC Comics film franchise!
