The Dark Archer, also known as Merlyn, is a deadly supervillain and archenemy of Green Arrow in DC Comics. Real name Arthur King (later retconned to Malcolm Merlyn), he is a master archer who once rivaled Green Arrow in skill and became one of his most dangerous adversaries. First appearing in Justice League of America #94 (1971), the Dark Archer began as a showboating archer turned assassin, eventually joining villainous organizations like the League of Assassins.
In the comics, he’s known for his cold precision, merciless attitude, and dedication to perfecting his craft, often pushing Oliver Queen to his physical and moral limits. The character gained significant popularity through the Arrow TV series, where Malcolm Merlyn, portrayed by John Barrowman, was reimagined as a former League of Assassins member and father to Thea Queen.
Ruthless, strategic, and always calculating, the Dark Archer is the shadowy reflection of Green Arrow, proving that skill with a bow means little without a guiding moral compass.
