Todd McFarlane confirmed that he holds the DC license through the end of 2026. During the announcement at the beginning of the year, all news outlets reported that McFarlane Toys would lose the DC license at some point mid-year 2026.
Now, thanks to a recent interview at NYCC 2025 with the Adventures in Collecting Podcast, McFarlane clarifies the license terms. He indicates that there is a possibility that his company will still be in the business of DC after the license changes hands. What that means, is not quite clear yet.

Todd is being optimistic about keeping some of DC’s licensing business after Mattel takes over the majority of the DC toy license. Mattel has been here before, but they’ll have to step up their game to keep the license. They squandered a lot of potential with some very poor sculpting & quality issues. If McFarlane holds on to a DC Direct portion of the business, that would include Batman Animated figures, statues, & unique items, it could be the best of both worlds.
Yeah, if anything I would think he would keep the DC Direct part. Which is not a bad thing. Hopefully means more Super Powers…
