McFarlane Toys has finally delivered what DC fans have been waiting decades for, a Danny DeVito Penguin straight out of Batman Returns. In my latest video review, I take a deep dive into this figure from the DC Multiverse line, and it might just be the most accurate and impressive version of Oswald Cobblepot we’ve ever seen in action figure form.
From the moment you see the packaging, it’s clear McFarlane went for a premium presentation. The metallic blue accents on the box pop beautifully against the black window display, showcasing the figure, accessories, and the iconic Batman Returns movie poster art on the back. Inside, collectors will notice a sewer-themed backdrop, a clever nod to the Penguin’s lair in the film.
Out of the box, the figure truly shines. The likeness to Danny DeVito’s portrayal is uncanny, with detailed facial paintwork, eerie eyes, and realistic wrinkles that bring the grotesque charm of Tim Burton’s villain to life. The soft goods coat with faux fur trim adds an extra layer of authenticity, while accessories like his top hat and umbrella round out the display perfectly.
While the top hat doesn’t fit snugly without some effort, and the base had some minor molding flaws, the figure overall is “the perfect Danny DeVito Penguin for any collection.” Comparing it to the earlier comic-style Penguin, the sculpting and realism of this version make it the definitive movie-accurate piece for fans of the Burton-era Batman films.
This Batman Returns Penguin retails for $34.99 and originally went up for pre-order at GameStop, where it sold out quickly. If you missed out, keep an eye on restocks, because this is one figure you won’t want to skip if you’re building your DC Multiverse movie collection.
