A new announcement of a McFarlane Toys QMx acquisition might provide a few DC licensing answers. Back in October, Todd McFarlane tried to clarify his DC license terms to the Adventures in Collecting Podcast. He claimed that even when the license finally transitions to Mattel, that his company would still be in the DC business.
The latest press release from McFarlane Toys might give us a peek at what that means. The news broke earlier today that the company has acquired the QMx brand. It indicated that it would be putting out Q-Figs for DC, Marvel, and Spawn.
This is not the type of “DC business” some fans were hoping McFarlane Toys would still be in after the Mattel transition. This seems like the likely avenue though. Another announcement also said that McFarlane Toys would be selling new DC comic books through their online store. This is yet, another way for him to stay in the DC business.
