McFarlane Toys has officially pulled back the curtain on a massive wave of upcoming releases. This wave spans across some of the most iconic eras of DC Comics history (for Batman). On May 13th, fans will have the opportunity to secure four distinct iterations of the Dark Knight and his allies. These range from the gritty realism of Frank Miller’s work to the supernatural horrors of recent crossover events.

UPDATE – Another Batman has been added to the list. The Gamestop exclusive “Golden Age Batman”. Image at the end of the article.

You can pre-order at the following locations. Please note that these are place-holder links until the official individual ones go up. We may add or subtract links as the official retailers become available. The individual links typically go live at noon EST. Good luck!

The Return of the Batman Armor: Azrael (Detective Comics #667)

Leading the charge in this announcement is Azrael in his full Batman Armor from the legendary “Knightfall” era. Specifically inspired by his appearance in Detective Comics #667, this figure captures Jean-Paul Valley at the height of his technological prowess and psychological instability.

The “Knightquest” and “KnightsEnd” storylines remain high-water marks for 90s comics. This figure represents the high-tech, razor-edged aesthetic of that decade perfectly. The Azrael Batman suit is a must-have for fans who grew up during this era.

Exploring the Supernatural: Batman/Deadman (Knight Terrors)

McFarlane Toys continues to dive deep into contemporary DC events with the inclusion of the Batman/Deadman fusion from the Knight Terrors event. This storyline explored the deepest fears of the DC Universe. The design of this figure reflects that eerie, otherworldly tone.

For fans of the supernatural side of Gotham, this figure offers a unique silhouette that stands out from the standard caped crusader. The merging of Boston Brand’s spectral energy with Bruce Wayne’s tactical gear creates a visual contrast that is perfect for toy photography and high-end shelf displays.

Modern Classics: The New 52 and The Dark Knight Returns

Rounding out the May 13th pre-order event are two pillars of Batman’s history. First is the New 52 Batman, representing the Jim Lee-inspired design that defined the character for the modern era. This version of the suit is celebrated for its sleek, back-to-basics look and classic grey-and-black color scheme. It makes it an essential “evergreen” piece for any collection.

In contrast, the wave also includes a fresh look at Batman from The Dark Knight Returns. Frank Miller’s hulking, grizzled veteran remains one of the most popular versions of the character ever conceived. McFarlane Toys has visited this universe before, but this is a popular story.

Golden Age Goodness

McFarlane Toys also announced a Red Platinum Gamestop exclusive Golden Age Batman figure. This figure is exclusively up for pre-order at Gamestop, but will be available at a later date at Walmart and Target.

How to Prepare for the May 13th Launch

This McFarlane Toys Batman pre-order is expected to be highly competitive. These figures will be available at select retailers, like Amazon, Entertainment Earth, Big Bad Toy Store, Gamestop, and Walmart.

To ensure you don’t miss out, it is recommended to come here and be ready to click the links at 12:00 PM EST (9:00 AM PST) on May 13th. Given the high demand for Azrael and the niche appeal of the Knight Terrors design, these figures may see quick sell-outs before they eventually hit physical store shelves later this year.

This upcoming wave offers a diverse look at the history of Gotham’s protector. Set your calendars for May 13th, it’s going to be a big day for the DC Multiverse.
