When Mattel took back the DC license, collectors spent months asking the same questions: What scale are they choosing? What are the price points? Are we getting a dedicated collector line or just mass-market kid-fare?

New York Comic Con 2026 finally gave us real answers.

Between floor displays, booth reveals, and official breakdowns, Mattel made its strategy clear. They aren’t relying on a single, one-size-fits-all product line. Instead, they’re splitting the DC brand across targeted tiers built for different types of collectors, display setups, and budgets.

Here is the complete breakdown of every line, scale, price point, and design choice Mattel revealed at NYCC.

The Mass Retail Tier: DC Core Line ($12.99)

The biggest question heading into the show was scale. Mattel landed squarely in the 6.5-inch scale (1:12 proportions).

This decision sets a clear standard. While McFarlane Toys spent years in the 7-inch space, Mattel chose a 6.5-inch footprint that aligns with modern 1:12 collector shelves and fits right alongside classic import releases.

Pricing & Distribution

  • MSRP: $12.99 per figure
  • Scale: 6.5-inch
  • Availability: Mass retail (Target, Walmart, major online retailers)

The mass-market DC Core line focuses on main-tier heroes and villains with accessible pricing, solid articulation, and durable builds aimed at both kids and casual collectors looking to build out team rosters without breaking the bank.

There was another line revealed as well, a select group of invited guests. These items will expand the line even further, but we will talk about that, when that information becomes officially available.

Flagship Reveal: Batman: Hush Rooftop Bat-Signal Diorama Set

The star of Mattel’s booth was the Batman: Hush diorama set based on Jim Lee’s artwork:

  • The Figure: A 6.5-inch Hush-style Batman featuring 34 points of articulation and multiple swappable hands.
  • The Base: A full Gotham City rooftop featuring a removable gargoyle.
  • Electronics & Tech: Includes a 7-inch functional Bat-Signal that projects onto nearby walls, plus a built-in water-based ultrasonic fogger that creates a true rooftop mist effect across the base.
  • Price: $100.00 MSRP via Mattel Creations.

How the Lines Interact Across Your Shelf

Mattel engineered these separate tiers to exist within a single ecosystem:

1. Unified Scale Across Tiers

Whether you buy a $12.99 mass-market Core release, or pick up a $100 DC Premium diorama set, the figures share the exact same 6.5-inch proportions. You can pull the Hush Batman off his rooftop base and display him directly alongside the rest of your 1:12 shelf.

2. Cross-Compatibility & Accessories

Hand pegs, neck balls, and effect parts maintain consistent sizing across both lines. Accessories included with Premium releases can interact with standard wave figures seamlessly.

What’s Next: Launch Timeline

Mattel is treating NYCC as an early look before pulling the curtain back completely.

  • January 1, 2027: Official Mattel Creations livestream event unveiling full wave line-ups, character rosters, and preorder dates across all tiers.
