There’s been some confusion lately about the future of the DC Comics action figure license, but things are finally becoming clearer. Todd McFarlane recently confirmed that McFarlane Toys will continue producing DC Multiverse figures through the end of 2026, ensuring fans have another full year of releases from the company.

Mattel issued a press release in February 2025 stating that it would begin producing DC Comics-based figures in mid-2026. Since then, through various interviews with Todd McFarlane, the timeline started getting murky.

According to ToyNewsi.com, after some clarification from the Mattel side, it now appears that the rollout will happen in stages. Mattel is expected to start producing kid-friendly DC toys sometime in 2026, followed by the collector-focused action figures in 2027.

This arrangement echoes what happened back in 2020, when the DC license was split between Spin Master and McFarlane Toys. Spin Master handled the kid-oriented figures, while McFarlane Toys focused on the more detailed, adult collector-oriented products. Based on current information, it seems the Spin Master portion of the license will return to Mattel first in 2026, with the McFarlane Toys portion remaining in place until the end of that year.

The original Mattel announcement didn’t make this distinction between product categories, which explains the initial confusion.

As for what Mattel has planned for collectors in 2027, details are still under wraps. However, industry insiders suggest we might start seeing hints and announcements sooner rather than later.

For now, collectors can rest easy knowing that McFarlane Toys’ DC Multiverse line isn’t going anywhere in 2026. Expect more reveals, exclusives, and surprises as the company continues its run with the DC license through next year.
