The upcoming lineup of new Mattel DC action figures is officially taking shape, giving fans a clear view of how the toy giant is handling the iconic DC Comics license (this is the kids line, I repeat KIDS line). New promotional images and in-depth unboxings reveal packaged looks at upcoming multi-packs, alongside a detailed hands-on review of a major Batman and villain set.

Initially designed to capture the imagination of younger fans, these releases are rapidly gaining traction among adult collectors who appreciate the classic comic book energy and stylized sculpts.

New Packaged Mattel DC Core Action Figures Revealed

In DemandToys has shared official images of the new Mattel DC action figures in their retail packaging online. The reveal highlights Mattel’s strategy of releasing highly playable multi-packs featuring Batman facing off against his legendary rogues’ gallery.

Two major retail sets have been showcased in this latest wave:

  • Batman vs. Killer Croc 2-Pack: This set pits a sleekly designed Caped Crusader against a massive, monstrously sculpted Killer Croc.
  • Batman & Green Lantern vs. Mr. Freeze 3-Pack: A retail set that brings a cosmic powerhouse into Gotham, teaming Green Lantern up with Batman to thwart the icy plans of a bulky Mr. Freeze.

The packaging for these sets utilizes vibrant artwork with a “torn-out” aesthetic, highlighting the characters in dynamic battle scenes. The back of the boxes provides context for the accessories and features, offering an appealing presentation for those who prefer to keep their collections mint-on-card.

Hands-On Unboxing: The DC Super Villain Clayface Box Set

In tandem with the packaged leaks, a new unboxing review from the YouTube channel Battle Stories provides a comprehensive look at the new Mattel DC action figures Batman vs. Clayface Super Villain Box Set. Sent over directly by Mattel, this particular set is the only open box configuration in the super villain wave, designed to let consumers interact with the toy’s main gimmick right on the shelf.

The Mud-Monster Sculpt and Gimmicks

Standing at an impressive 7.5 inches tall, the Clayface figure is a heavy, bulky centerpiece. The body mold is intricately carved to replicate hardened, chunked mud sliding off his back, emphasizing his physical superiority over the Dark Knight.

The standout feature of this figure is its head-swap functionality, coming packed with two distinct, hideously detailed sculpts:

  1. The Animated Series Head: A larger, neckless sculpt featuring giant crooked teeth and an evil laughing expression, heavily inspired by his classic television appearances.
  2. The Horror-Inspired Head: A regular-sized, terrifying alternative that features a secondary set of sharp pointy teeth visible deep inside his mouth.

For articulation, Clayface features a rotating right hammer-fist that functions on a spring-action mechanism. His left arm includes a single-jointed elbow with a hand sculpted tightly enough to securely lift and hold a 6-inch figure off the ground. Despite his top-heavy build, tilted ankle articulation ensures the figure remains perfectly balanced.

The Caped Crusader and Modular Weaponry

The Batman figure included in the set mirrors the mold seen in the Killer Croc 2-pack, swapping out red tracking goggles for his traditional white comic book eyes. The suit strays from standard gray, leaning into a lighter, nearly white color palette paired with a sharp black cowl, gloves, trunks, and a bright yellow utility belt. A long, soft-goods fabric cape is tucked cleanly under the cowl, flowing down to his ankles.

Batman is equipped with a large, black shoulder-mounted grapple launcher. This launcher packs a heavy spring-loaded punch, firing bright yellow projectiles. True to the modular nature of the new Mattel DC action figures ecosystem, the launcher features an extended rotatable arm plug that can attach directly to Batman’s back or connect to the upcoming line’s Batmobile.

Blending Playability with Collector Appeal

While Mattel engineered these figures with durability and playability at the forefront, the visual execution is turning heads across the collecting community. The stylized proportions, intricate texture work on the larger monsters, and classic comic color schemes make them excellent options for toy photography and stop-motion animation.

As Mattel continues to roll out its kids-focused line, these releases serve as a highly anticipated baseline for what the manufacturer will bring to the table when their dedicated adult collector line launches next year.
