NECA has officially announced a brand-new 8-inch clothed action figure of The Penguin. It is inspired by his appearance in Tim Burton’s 1992 cinematic masterpiece, Batman Returns.
This latest release celebrates Danny DeVito’s legendary performance as Oswald Cobblepot, the deformed man abandoned by his parents as a child who rises from the tunnels beneath the city to seek a twisted revenge.
Retro Style Meets Modern Detail
Paying homage to the vintage toy lines of the early ’90s, this figure features a fully articulated 8-inch scale body wrapped in high-quality, tailored soft goods clothing. The centerpiece of his wardrobe is a detailed fabric coat that includes an integrated wire for dynamic, windswept posing. Its perfect for recreating his brooding presence at the Arctic World Pavilion.
The figure comes packed with accessories that highlight the Penguin’s most memorable eccentricities:
- The Classic Look: Includes his signature removable top hat and monocle.
- The Appetite: A half-eaten fish snack, a nod to his feral nature in the film.
- Interchangeable Hands: Multiple gloved hands allow for various posing options.
The figure will be housed in collector-friendly window box packaging with a protective slipcover.
The Legacy of the 1992 Penguin
Batman Returns redefined the Penguin, moving him away from the “gentleman of crime” comic tropes and into the realm of Gothic tragedy. In the film, Cobblepot forms a shaky alliance with the corrupt businessman Max Shreck and leads the Red Triangle Circus Gang in a terror campaign to take over Gotham City. This NECA release marks a rare opportunity for fans to own a cloth-outfitted version of this specific iteration at a more compact, 8-inch scale.
The Penguin goes up for pre-order February 14th. We will have pre-order links available as soon as it launches. What do you think of this new figure? Will you be picking it up for your collection? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below!
